FAQ’s

Hmmm…so I’m still interested, but I’ve never heard of Pro Coach or done online training. Can you tell me more about it?

  • Pro Coach is a world-class online training platform developed by Precision Nutrition that allows me, your Pro Coach, to coach you no matter where you are.
  • You’ll receive daily emails containing brief descriptions of what you should be working on and thinking about that day. This is how we’re going to make sustainable lifetime habits!
  • To support your new habits, you’ll receive brief lessons in the form of articles videos, audio files, and/or downloads.
  • Every two weeks, we’ll focus on the progress that you’ve made. Progress can mean body weight, measurements, or progress can be meal prepping and planning for the week ahead!

As a coach, I know you’ll be taken care of well, and I’m able to see where you’re at all times.

Why Not Just Give You a Meal Plan?

  • Sadly, only about 1 in 10 people actually follow a customized meal plan for more than a few weeks. I have a different approach.
  • People feel as if they’re either “on” or “off” a meal plan and the black and white nature of a meal plan suggests that people have to eat perfectly at each meal – or they’re failed. It’s psychologically unpalatable and unsustainable.
  • In reality, meal plans don’t work well with people’s busy lives. Work meetings, children’s programs, meals out, dogs that need walking, cars that break down, family members that get ill, etc. Meal plans make it hard to juggle it all. Plus, meal plans assume you already have the skills to follow them.
  • But that’s not true. Most people who aren’t eating healthy today, don’t have the basics mastered. Without skills like planning grocery shopping, choosing right items, storing and prepping food correctly, eating slowly and mindfully, etc. following a meal plan becomes hopeless.

So if This Isn’t a Meal Plan, What is it?

  • Instead of giving you a meal plan, which you’ll follow for a week or maybe two, we’re going to focus on something called habit-based coaching.
  • Habit-based coaching is rooted in the best practices of change psychology. In other words, it’s built on the latest science of what actually helps people develop new skills and make change in their lives.
  • So, instead of giving you a meal plan of 150g of protein, 200g of carbs, 80g of fat a day, you’ll receive a series of 2 week habits – which are both solid and flexible. To support these habits, we’ll also work on relevant lessons and assignments.
  • In the end, rather than telling people what to eat and when, you’ll develop sustainable lifestyle habits to eat well every day no matter what life throws at you. We’ll change the way you think of food, educate you on how to make good choices, and provide you with the tools and understanding to live your life healthier, happier, and fitter.

Can You Explain Habit-Based Coaching a Little More?

I believe you can only reliably get to your goals if you do two things:

  1. Break down the thing you want to do (goal) into specific aptitudes (skills).
  2. Build those aptitudes (skills) through strategies daily habits (practices).

What does this look like? Practice daily to build skills and build skills to achieve goals. Growth and development comes through daily practices and supporting experiences. Here’s an example for you:

Goal: Eat better consistently – let’s say you want to lose weight. You know that to lose weight you’ll need to eat better consistently. That’s your real goal – to eat better consistently.

But you don’t have the skills to do that just yet. Soooo….you have to break that down into:

  • Skill: Hunger and appetite awareness
  • Practices: Eat slowly and stop eating when satisfied

Expect to Dig Into:

  • Food behaviours (timing, meal frequency, meal speed, food amount)
  • Food atitudes (food views, restriction vs abundance, disordered thinking)
  • Stress management (in general, how it relates to food)
  • Rest, recovery, and sleep (in general how they relate to food)
  • Outlook (confidence, resiliency, mastery, and growth mindset)

Sound a little weird to you? What’s the catch? It sounded weird to me too at first, but it grows on you. I also like the fact that it’s the only method that works in the long run! Bottom line – is what you’re currently doing working for you? If not, maybe it’s time to take a closer look at things and build sustainable habits that don’t have you yo-yoing all over the place or trying to hop on the next shiny diet craze!
